Moto G6 Play launch rumoured for May 21st in India

“The Moto G6 Play is one of the first smartphones from the brand to come with an 18:9 display”

Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its first 18:9 display smartphones – Moto G6, G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play in Brazil last month. Recently, the brand teased the launch of the Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 in India from its official Indian Twitter handle. Now, BGR India has reported that the brand will launch the smartphone in the country on May 21st.

According to the report, people familiar with Motorola India’s plans have shared that the Moto G6 Play will be exclusive to Flipkart in the country. This comes as a surprising move since last year, Motorola Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus were launched on both Amazon India and Flipkart. Moreover, the report didn’t clarify if the Moto G6 will be launched on the same date and if it will be a Flipkart exclusive as well. To recap, the Moto G6 Play is the base variant in the line-up and ships with a 5.7-inch display bearing 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ screen resolution. The handset flaunts a premium glass-sandwich design, which is a first for the G-series line-up.

Driving the performance of the handset is a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. The chipset is backed by 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card. In the camera department, the handset offers a 13MP rear camera with LED flash. There is an 8MP front camera with dedicated LED flash for selfies and video calling. The smartphone will run stock Android Oreo out of the box and powered by a 4,000 mAh battery. There is a fingerprint scanner embedded in the Moto dimple at the back, for security.

The Indian pricing and availability are not known at the moment. The handset is being offered in Sterling Blue, Indigo Blue, Fine Gold, and Silver color options.
