TCL Communication, the Chinese multinational electronics that has the license to manufacture Blackberry smartphones, seems all set to take the wraps off the BlackBerry KEY2. The handset, as the name indicates, will come as the successor to last year’s BlackBerry KEYone.
This news came directly from BlackBerry itself as the Canadian firm on May 11 tweeted that its KEY2 will see the light of the day on June 7 this year in an event in New York. If you haven’t noticed, what’s different this time is that the phone’s name includes the numeral ‘2’ instead of two.
Codenamed Athena, the smartphone was also spotted listed on TENNA, a Chinese certification website recently and has also been given Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance certifications, reports Android Authority.
As we mentioned above, the smartphone falls as a successor to KEYone that was launched in February 2017. For reference, the smartphone sports a 4.5-inch scratch resistant full HD display (1080 x 1620 pixels) resolution and came with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
Some of the other key features expected arrive in BlackBerry KEY2 are QWERTY keypad, dual-camera setup on the back with 12 and 8MP sensors, 8MP front camera and a 3,360mAh battery. Other specs and features rumoured are 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a fingerprint scanner likely embedded on the spacebar.
