Top smartphones expected to launch in India: October 2018

It’s that time of the year again when top smartphones manufacturers start releasing products with the holiday season in mind. Bigwigs like OnePlus and Google will be releasing their new flagships in the month of October.

Here’s a list of smartphones that are expected to hit the market in the current month.

Apple iPhone XR

A lot is being said about this watered-down version of the new iPhones XS duo. Dubbed the iPhone XR, the good thing is that it shares Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip with its pricier siblings, ensuring blazingly-fast performance. That said, it’s a bit concerning that its LCD panel sports a resolution of just 828 x 1,792 pixels, and the handset has also given 3D Touch a miss. What it has not skimped upon is is the faster Face ID and the depth-control features introduced by Apple with its iPhone XS models, even with a single 12MP camera at the back.

Google Pixel 3 / 3 XL

These are most probably the most leaked phones in the history of leaked phones. Google’s competitors to Apple’s iPhones will no doubt boast powerful specs, and given their predecessors’ reputation of delivering unbeatable camera performance, you can expect same to be the case with the forthcoming Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL too. Specs-wise, you can expect top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM. The devices will be unveiled on October 9th, and we can expect them to land in India soon after.

OnePlus 6T

The OnePlus 6 is already a great phone, but its makers have decided to update it with even better features. It has been confirmed the OP6’s successor will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. Moreover, the wide notch of its previous iteration will apparently be replaced by a small waterdrop-style notch. Unfortunately, the brand has also confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will drop the headphone socket in favor of the USB Type-C port. While the exact launch date of the handset isn’t known yet, speculations are rife that it’ll be unveiled on October 17th.

Nubia Red Magic

The aluminum-clad phone comes with an RGB LED strip on its back that surely enhances its style quotient. The Red Magic is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor which comes with an Adreno 540 GPU, working alongside 8GB of RAM. You can expect it to be launched in India in late October.

Motorola One Power

It’s the brand’s first Android One-certified handset in the country and also offers a notch-toting display. The handset’s claim to fame is a 5000mAh battery, which is complemented by dual cameras, a large 6.2-inch display, and the Snapdragon 636 processor. The smartphone is attractively priced at Rs 15,999, will go on sale starting October 5th, exclusively on Flipkart.

On its front sits a 16MP selfie camera. The V9 Pro will go on sale during Amazon’s Great Indian Festival from October 10 to 14. While the introductory price of the Vivo device is Rs 17,990, it will be sold at Rs 19,990 later on.

Flipkart and Nokia’s online shop will begin selling the new 5.1 Plus from October 1st onwards. This Android One device offers stylish looks and features dual rear cameras as well. It’s powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset and comes fitted with a future-proof USB Type-C port. True to today’s times, a notch exists on its 5.86-inch HD display. The phone sips juice from a 3,000mAh battery.

Realme 2 Pro

The Realme 2 Pro has a lot to offer at its surprisingly low price of Rs 13,990. Firstly, there’s the ‘Dewdrop Full Screen’ display that keeps the notch to a bare minimum. And then there’s also the Snapdragon 660 chipset inside it, making it the most affordable phone with the powerful mid-tier from Qualcomm. Its dual-camera system includes a 16MP snapper with a f/1.7 aperture, which is paired with a 2MP depth-sensing lens. Moreover, its top model, which costs Rs 17,990 ships with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The Realme 2 Pro will be available to buy from October 11th exclusively through Flipkart.
